Assistance with Daily NDIS Household Tasks
NDIS household tasks can be quite demanding. It becomes even more difficult for people with disabilities to take proper care of their home. A clutter free and clean home elevates mood and aids in better recovery and improved response to treatment. Regular cleaning also eliminates the risk of catching infections from dirty surroundings and saves your loved ones and their home from pest infestation.
NDIS Household task assistance provides domestic support in Adelaide to carry out periodic cleaning and chores for participants who are unable to perform their household duties. It helps to maintain a safe, comfortable, and clean home environment for participants to thrive in. It also eliminates the guilt of not being able to maintain a clean and functional home. At EDSA, we provide immaculate and affordable NDIS household tasks service in Adelaide.
What is covered
(Assistance with Household Tasks) covers:
- Vacuuming, mopping, dusting
- Bathroom and kitchen cleaning
- Bed making and linen changes
- Laundry — washing, drying, folding, putting away
- Ironing
- Grocery shopping with or for you
- Meal preparation (cooking, batch cooking, freezing)
- Dishes and kitchen tidying
- Light outdoor tasks — sweeping the patio, clearing the mailbox, watering plants
- Bin nights — taking bins out and bringing them in
Everything happens in a way that suits you. Some participants want the worker to handle everything. Others want to work alongside the worker, using the session as skill practice. Both are fine and we discuss which approach suits you at the start.

What is not covered
Household tasks funding does not cover:
- Major yard maintenance (lawn mowing beyond a small patch, tree pruning, gutter cleaning) — these need a separate contractor
- Home repairs or handyman work
- Commercial cleaning or end-of-lease cleans
- Heavy furniture moving
- Pet care (feeding, walking) — though a support worker can keep an eye on pets during a shift, this isn't the focus
If you need yard work or repairs, we can sometimes help arrange a trusted local contractor, but this is paid privately or through separate NDIS Home Modifications funding.
How EDSA runs NDIS household tasks
Same worker each visit
Rotating faces don’t know where your good pans live. The same worker every fortnight learns your home — the way you like your kitchen, the laundry detergent you prefer, the fact that the top shelf is where the good glasses stay. Consistency makes sessions faster and less stressful.
You set the priorities
First session of a new arrangement, we walk through your home together. You tell us what matters most. For some participants that is the kitchen and bathroom. For others, laundry is the pain point. We build a routine around your priorities, not a generic checklist.
Flexible frequency
Common patterns:
- Weekly 2-3 hour session — standard for most participants
- Fortnightly 3-4 hour session — suits participants who keep on top of light tasks themselves
- Twice weekly short sessions — suits participants who need help with daily tasks like washing up and laundry
- Ad-hoc sessions — monthly catch-up cleans plus an occasional deep clean
Meal prep made sustainable
Meal prep is the household task we see neglected most. Participants often skip it because it is easier to buy takeaway than cook. We change that by batch cooking with you — 4-6 meals ready for the freezer from one 2-hour session. We write down the recipes you like, the ones you don’t, and what works for your budget.
Specific scenarios
Participants recently discharged from hospital
A common referral: a participant gets home from hospital and can't manage the usual household load. We set up an intensive 4-6 week program (more hours than usual) and scale back as strength and confidence return.
Single-person households
Living alone means no one else picks up the slack. Regular household task support prevents small problems (overflowing bins, a growing mess, overdue laundry) from becoming big ones.
Carer relief
Family carers often carry the whole house. A 3-hour fortnightly clean frees the carer to rest or focus on the participant's personal care. It also reduces carer burnout, which protects the whole household.
SIL homes
In our SIL homes, household tasks are built into the SIL roster. The same support workers who help with personal care also keep the home running. No separate bookings needed.
Strongest coverage: Glengowrie, Marion, Brighton, Mitcham, Unley, CBD, West Torrens, Holdfast Bay, Port Adelaide, Prospect, Walkerville, Norwood, Burnside. Salisbury, Modbury, Parafield covered when worker availability aligns.
Frequently asked questions
How much of my Core budget does household tasks use?
At the current NDIS weekday rate, a weekly 2-hour clean uses roughly $65-$70 per session. Annualised, that is about $3,400-$3,600. Your plan will have this built in if household tasks are a stated need. We can run the numbers with you before you sign anything.
Can you clean around my pet?
Yes. Most of our workers are fine with dogs and cats. If you have unusual pets (reptiles, birds) or animals with complex needs, let us know and we will match a worker comfortable with that.
What if I need a one-off deep clean?
Deep cleans can be scheduled separately, usually 4-6 hours, for spring cleans or before family visits. These eat more of your Core budget in one go so we confirm the plan can absorb it first.
Can you do shopping without me?
Yes. Some participants prefer to stay home while the worker shops. We take your list, buy from your usual supermarket (Coles Marion, Woolworths Brighton, Foodland Glengowrie), and put it away. Receipts go to you.
Do you bring your own cleaning products?
We use your products by default because many participants have allergies, sensitivities, or preferences. If you would like us to bring basics, we can, and costs are added to the service cost with receipts.
Do you cover holidays?
Weekend and public holiday rates apply per NDIS Pricing Arrangements. Many participants prefer weekday-only to keep costs down.
